Youth Drop-in Center Opens at Valley Community Clinic

Mental health counseling, primary health care and other services will be available.

A ribbon-cutting event was recently held for a new teen drop-in center at Valley Communty Clinic, including youth that are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

The 5,000-square-foot center, located at 6801 Coldwater Canyon, is being run by Village Family Services, which has 13 years experience of providing trauma-informed services to youngsters, NBC4 reports.

In addition to opening its doors to LGBT youth, the site is also open to homeless and foster kids and offer services including including mental health counseling, case management, primary health care, and HIV and health-prevention services, according to a press release.

L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky helped secure some funding for the facility and attended the ribbon cutting.

This drop-in center will provide an ability to address all of the issues that affect [transition age youth] in a comprehensive way. That’s why we were happy to provide the start-up funding for this project,” he told NBC4.
