OCEANSIDE, CA — One person was killed Wednesday in a predawn traffic crash involving a passenger car and a big rig on Interstate 5 near the southern reaches of Camp Pendleton.
The accident took place about 1:30 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway in the Oceanside area, about five miles south of Las Pulgas Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, died at the scene.

The collision forced a full closure of the southbound side of the interstate for a time. All lanes in the area were open again as of shortly after 5 a.m., the CHP advised.
