Within minutes, five additional fire engines, a ladder truck, and two battalion chiefs arrived on the scene, according to the fire department. Personnel from the ladder truck crew cut a hole in the roof, allowing superheated gases to escape and enabling crews to thoroughly search the home and find the family's dog. No other occupants were found.
The pup suffered mild smoke inhalation but was expected to make a full recovery, officials said.
