Two passers-by found the man later identified as 18-year-old Ozzy Maturano lying face down near the railroad tracks off the 300 block of Neptune Way near North Cleveland Street.

A investigation was underway Saturday into the shooting death of an 18-year-old man who was found dying on an Oceanside bike path, police said.

Two passers-by found the man, later identified by police as Ozzy Maturano, lying face down with a single gunshot wound near the railroad tracks off the 300 block of Neptune Way near North Cleveland Street about 6:40 p.m. Friday, Oceanside police Sgt. Matt Christensen said.

The two citizens saw that Maturano sustained some type of trauma and initiated life-saving efforts. Efforts were then continued by arriving fire personnel, but were ultimately unsuccessful and Maturano died at the scene, Christensen said.

Christensen said anyone with information about the shooting should call Oceanside police Detective T.J. Dunn at (760) 435-4054.
