Barricaded Suspect Prompts Residential SWAT Standoff In North County

VISTA, CA — A barricaded suspect in a Vista home prompted a SWAT standoff that stretched from the late morning into the mid-afternoon Wednesday, authorities reported.

Special weapons and tactics personnel were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday to the 700 block of North Citrus Avenue, north of state Route 78 and east of North Santa Fe Avenue, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

The stalemate was ongoing as of 3:30 p.m., Lt. Jessica Boegler said.

The standoff grew out of a call for a welfare check at the residence, the lieutenant said, adding that she had no further details.

Sheriff's officials asked the public to avoid the area if possible pending resolution of the situation.
