PHOTOS: Overnight Fire Burns 75 Acres

Crews worked today to contain a fire that blackened swaths of brushy open land on a firing range at Camp Pendleton, a Marine Corps spokesman reported.
The blaze, sparked byearly Thursday evening, had spread over about 140 hilly acres as of late this afternoon, USMC Capt. Barry Edwards said. By then, military, state and federal firefighters had the burn area roughly 75 percent contained, he said.

The wildfire in the south-central reaches of the Oceanside-area military base had a slow rate of spread and posed no threats to structures or personnel, the captain said. Earlier reports of the fire consuming 700 acres were incorrect.
Radio traffic shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday suggested fire crews from as far as Escondido responded. The glow could be seen from the South Mesa 1 and Stuart Mesa 1 areas, according to Facebook and Twitter users.

By 11 p.m., 16 engines, two hand crews and one water tender responded and met shifting winds, according to the post.
The Camp Pendleton Fire Department posted an advisory on its Facebook Thursday evening.
Officials attributed the fire to training, NBC San Diego reported.
Marines on base are currently conducting , which can be heard from throughout North County.
