Here are the top three stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- A new study from SmartAsset shows that Oceanside is one of America's Best Cities for Military Retirees. Oceanside moved up the list this year by one spot to ninth place, ranking well for its relatively low percentage of veterans living under the poverty line (5.0 percent), which is the 28th-lowest rate across the study. According to recent data from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), there are about 18 million veterans in the United States, of whom about 13 million are over the age of 50. - The Oceanside Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2023 Oceanside Police Department Explorer Program. Explorers in the program will receive fitness, leadership, and career preparedness training and participate in ride-a-longs, among other benefits. To apply, applicants must be between the ages of 16-20 and have completed eighth grade, be enrolled in school (or in receipt of a high school diploma or GED certificate), and be able to commit to 10 hours per month or 30 hours per quarter of service. - Thirty people were arrested in a four-day anti-human trafficking operation in San Diego County. According to a statement from California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s Office on Monday, the initiative — dubbed Operation Century Week — was carried out in San Diego, Encinitas, National City, Santee, and other local areas between last Tuesday and Friday. Law enforcement went undercover, posing in online advertisements as people offering sex for sale. They met up with those who responded to the ads at certain predetermined locations, where they were arrested for alleged solicitation. (KUSI)
