Brush Fire Blocks Traffic On I-15 In North County

Officials urged motorists to expect delays and use caution in the area.

ESCONDIDO, CA — A small brush fire blocked traffic Monday afternoon on Interstate 15 near Escondido, authorities said.

The blaze, called the Deer Fire, sparked alongside southbound I-15, north of Mountain Meadow Road in the Deer Springs area, according to Cal Fire. Ground and airborne crews were working to extinguish the fie, which was holding at about two acres and posing no structural threats, a spokesman for the state agency said.

The No. 4 lane on southbound I-15, north of Deer Spring Road, was blocked due to fire, according to the CHP's Oceanside area office. Officials urged motorists to expect delays and use caution in the area.
