Brush Fire Burns 50 Acres Near Julian In San Diego County
The blaze, called the Felipe Fire, sparked near SR-78 and San Felipe Road, according to Cal Fire.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Crews were battling a brush fire Thursday east of the community of Julian in San Diego County.
The blaze, called the Felipe Fire, sparked at about 1:30 p.m. near state Route 78 and San Felipe Road, according to Cal Fire. As of 2:30 p.m., the fire had scorched 15 acres and had the "potential to be an extended attack incident," Cal Fire officials said.
By 4 p.m., the slow-burning fire had grown to about 50 acres and was 5% contained. Crews were working in steep and rocky terrain, but firefighters were making good progress, officials said.

All SR-78 lanes east of San Felipe Road were closed in both directions due to the fire, according to Caltrans.
There were no reports of structural threats.
