Celebrate National Donut Day in Oceanside, Camp Pendleton

Friday is National Donut Day, an event created way back in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

The holiday is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June.

The big doughnut chains—Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts, to be exact—are commemorating the day by handing out free treats. The only Dunkin' Donuts in California is on the Camp Pendleton Marine base.

The closest Krispy Kreme location to Oceanside is in either San Diego or Mission Viejo
