Chip Dykes, Retired Marine, Announces Run for City Council
Chip Dykes says he plans to unify community groups, businesses and city government.

Retired Marine Chip Dykes officially announced his candidacy for Oceanside City Council Wednesday morning.
“Service for a Marine never ends,” he told supporters at the Oceanside Courtyard by Marriott.
Dykes was stationed at Camp Pendleton and was able to remain stationed at the base.

“I’ve watched Oceanside grow over the past 22 years and I’m pretty excited for the future,” he said.
He has served on boards of various organizations such as the and the Joe and Mary Mottino Family YMCA.

In office, he would word work to bring together the community organizations, businesses and the city government working together, he said. Specifically, he would “invigorate” the Oceanside Gateway Business Park.

Oceanside Councilmembers Gary Felien and Jerry Kern accompanied the candidate on stage.
Early in his speech, Dykes mentioned he was a lifeguard in his youth. Deputy Mayor Jack Feller brought up that point after Dykes’ speech.
“We can use some life saving up in the chamber,” he said. “We … definitely need you in that seat next to Jerry.”
