Devil Pups to Hit Major Milestone Saturday

Some 300 teens have spent the past 10 days on Camp Pendleton completing challenging teamwork activities.

The 50,000th teen to graduate the Devil Pups Youth Program for America will do so at a ceremony scheduled for Saturday at Camp Pendleton, base officials announced today.

Two classes of girls and boys from ages 14 to 17 participated in the program that got under way July 5. The goal is to teach the 300 young people how to cooperate and to respect other, regardless of race, creed, color or national origin, base officials said.

The program features 10 days each of challenges, teamwork, discipline and education. Activities include exercises, first-aid instruction, leadership classes, camping out and swimming, officials said.

The Devil Pups Youth Program for America was started in 1954 to help teens develop character and to become healthier and more successful.
