Firefighters Halt Brush Fire North Of Fallbrook

The fire briefly prompted evacuation warnings.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Firefighters were gaining the upper hand on a 12-acre brush fire that broke out in the De Luz area Sunday and briefly prompted evacuation warnings.

Units were dispatched around 11 a.m. Sunday to reports of a fire in the area of Harris Trail and Via Cordoniz Road in unincorporated San Diego County, just north of Fallbrook, according to Cal Fire officials.

"No structure damage, with a moderate rate of spread. Between aircraft and ground crews, they are making very good progress," a public information officer with Cal Fire told City News Service.

Containment was at 10% as of 1 p.m. Sunday and the fire's forward rate of spread was stopped.

Evacuation warnings had been issued for areas of De Luz but were lifted a short time later, Cal Fire officials told CNS.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
