Foundation Distributes 800 Christmas Trees at Camp Pendleton

Pendleton is one of more than 60 military bases around the country to receive trees this year from the Christmas Spirit Foundation.

Some 800 Christmas trees will be given to the families of Marines and sailors at Camp Pendleton Friday as part of an annual program.

This year's Trees for Troops program will begin at the base at 9 a.m., according the Christmas Spirit Foundation, which sponsors the event, now in its ninth year.

Pendleton is one of more than 60 military bases around the country to receive trees from the foundation. In all, about 17,000 trees are expected to be delivered to troops this year.

Many of the trees going to the troops were recently purchased this holiday season by civilians at one of more than 30 participating Christmas tree lots and farms around the country, then shipped by FedEx to the various bases, according to the foundation.

The Chesterfield, Mo.-based nonprofit also accepts monetary donations online year round.
