Genentech to Spend $132 Million to Expand Oceanside Plant

The investment will allow Genentech to double production of cancer and arthritis drugs at the Oceanside facility.

San Francisco-based Genentech will invest $132 million in its Oceanside plant and hire approximately 50 new employees, the San Diego Business Journal reports.

The Journal said construction will begin in the first quarter of 2014, and is expected to be complete in 2016. The plant currently employs 420.

The Oceanside plant manufactures three Genentech drugs that that treat cancer and arthritis — Actemra, Rituxan and Avastin. The investment will allow Genetech to double production at the plant, the Business Journal said.

Genentech began operations in Oceanside in 2005 and now has a 60-acre campus in the Rancho del Oro area.
