Hundreds to Take Polar Plunge Saturday

Hundreds of people will brave the Pacific Ocean's chilly waters on Saturday, March 2nd to take the Polar Plunge and raise funds for local Special Olympics athletes.

Companies, school groups, community groups, law enforcement, and supporters of all kinds will walk, run, or “creatively enter” the sub-50-degree waters to benefit Special Olympics Southern California. Even people “Too Chicken to Plunge” have the opportunity to participate in this exhilarating fundraiser and raise funds to stay OUT of the water.

The plunge will take place at the Oceanside Amphitheater (200 N the Strand, Oceanside) with registration at 8am and the actual plunge at 10am. Each Plunger or Chicken will raise a minimum of $50 to participate with additional incentives for funds raised. People are encouraged to sport their favorite costume whether they come alone or plunge with friends. Although the best costumes may be rewarded, crowds of people will cheer on all participants whether they are braving the waters in a Superman costume or just a swimsuit.

Local comedian favorite, Scott Bowman, will be the featured master of ceremonies and School of Rock will provide great music to get everyone amped and ready to brave the chilly waters. Java Break Express will have a hot cup of coffee waiting on the beach, and Surf & Sea Street Tacos and Duke's Hot Sandwiches will be ready with some food. The festivities will also include the Special Olympics booth with Hero Bears and Special Olympics merchandise for purchase, lots of great raffle prizes and a silent auction as well as information on how to get involved with Special Olympics.
