Inmate Who Died At North County Jail Identified

Deputies performing routine safety checks found him unresponsive in his jail cell, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

VISTA, CA — Authorities Tuesday publicly identified an inmate who died last weekend at Vista Detention Facility.

Deputies performing routine safety checks found Corey Michael Dean, 43, unresponsive around 3 a.m. Sunday in his jail cell, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Jail staff and paramedics tried to revive Dean before pronouncing him dead at about 3:20 a.m. at the scene, sheriff's Lt. Juan Marquez said.

Dean, a resident of San Diego County, had been in custody since June 15 on suspicion of multiple burglary charges and felony vandalism, according to Marquez.

Dean's cause and manner of death will be determined by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
