Pendleton General Targeted in Botched Afghan Attack

A man in a stolen truck attempted to run into a taxiing plane carrying Maj. Gen. Charles Gurganus as they waited in a Southern Afghanistan runway for Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, officials told the Associated Press Friday

The suspects were taken into custody.

Gurganus took command of an Afghan sector that includes Helman Province this week. He faced rising tensions the first days on the job, the U-T San Diego reports.
