Man Arrested in Connection with Overnight Shooting

A man was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting early today of a 47-year-old man and the wounding of the victim's 49- year-old girlfriend in Oceanside, police said.
A woman was reported screaming for help at Calle Solimar and Calle Mariposa around 12:20 a.m., according to Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata.
Police found a wounded woman sitting in a truck that was stopped and facing oncoming traffic east of the intersection. A man was lying in a driveway in the 300 block of Calle Mariposa, across the street, Mata said.

Medics took the woman to a hospital, and police said she was expected to survive. The man died at the scene.
The victims' names were not released.

"The investigation led officers to the home of (a) possible shooting suspect," according to a police statement. The suspect, Diego Martinez, 20, was arrested without incident after officers obtained a search warrant and surrounded his home in the 4700 block of Calle Solimar, authorities said. The home is not far from the shooting scene, Mata said.
Officers recovered a rifle during the search, but it was unknown if the weapon was used in the shootings, Mata said.
Police had not established the motive for the shooting, and the relationship -- if any -- between the suspect and the victims is unknown, Mata said.
