Man Who Died In Car Crash On SR-78 In Oceanside ID'd

OCEANSIDE, CA — Authorities have publicly identified a man who was killed last weekend when the car in which he was riding veered off state Route 78 near MiraCosta College and crashed onto the grounds of a gas station.

John Edwards Jr., 60, was riding in an eastbound Hyundai sedan that careened off the freeway and landed in a commercial area in the 3800 block of Plaza Drive in Oceanside about 9:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Edwards died at the scene of the accident, the agency reported.

Paramedics took the person who had been driving the car to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
