  1. Homeowners on the Oceanside beach have asked the California Coastal Commission for permission to rebuild and enlarge the boulder seawall to protect the community from rising tides. The request was brought by homeowners of the North Coast Village, a 12-acre, 550-condominium complex. Staffers at the Coastal Commission are recommending a partial approval allowing the homeowners association to repair the seawall. However, the approval would also require homeowners to correct past state Coastal Act violations dating as far back as the late 1970s. (Subscription: The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  2. This year, Dr. Curtis Chan’s 14th annual Candy Buy Back and Card Give Back program brought in over 4,000 pounds of candy and nearly 3,500 hand-written cards for the troops. The candy donations came from 12 local schools and local businesses, while the cards were written by children, parents, and Dr. Chan's patients. Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton visited Dr. Chan’s office in Del Mar on Nov. 10 as 118 children exchanged bags of treats for dollar bills. Each child also left with great prizes, a toothbrush kit, and a chance to win a Golden Ticket worth $100. (Del Mar Times)
  3. Michelin has added 30 SoCal restaurants to its official California guide, including one right here in Oceanside. Valle, located at 222 N Pacific St., was highlighted for its four-course dinner and eight-course tasting menu, as well as its gorgeous ocean views. The restaurant's name refers to the Guadalupe Valley of Baja California, Mexico's "premier viticultural region." This region "furnishes [Valle's] wine list and serves as inspiration for Chef Roberto Alcocer's refined, modern expression of Mexican cuisine," according to a Michelin inspector. (Patch)
