UPDATE: Man in Critical Condition After Sustaining Burns from Overnight House Fire
An overnight fire left a man with severe burns.

An Oceanside man, who was overcome by smoke and heat early today as flames spread through his home, was hospitalized in critical condition, authorities reported.
The blaze in the 2700 block of Lancelot Drive was reported about 1:15 a.m., according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

"On arrival, firefighters were informed of an occupant trapped inside," Battalion Chief Joe Ward said. "Initial responding units pulled attack lines, made an aggressive offensive attack on the fire and initiated rescue operations."
Crews found the resident unconscious on the floor of a bathroom in "near zero-visibility" conditions, Ward said. They pulled the him outside and performed CPR before taking him to Tri-City Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical condition.

"The family dog was also carried out barely breathing, but survived," Ward said.
The blaze was declared under control within about 40 minutes of firefighters' arrival, a dispatcher said.
The cause was under investigation.
