Pendleton's Top General to Become Senior Panetta Assistant
Lt. Gen. Thomas D. Waldhauser will relinquish his commands of Marine Forces Central Command and the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force to two generals Friday.
Camp Pendleton’s highest-ranking general is slated to serve as the Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force released.
Lt. Gen. Thomas D. Waldhauser will relinquish his commands of Marine Forces Central Command and the MEF to two generals Friday.
Lt. Gen. John A. Toolan will take command of the MEF, which has more than 56,000 sailors and Marines assigned to it. Lt. Gen. Robert B. Neller will take command of Marine Forces Central Command.

Waldhaur recently made news when he was picked to lead the investigation into a video appearing to show Marines urinating on Taliban corpses.

Toolan’s latest post was as the commanding general of the 2nd Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, NC. Neller’s was recently the director for operations at the Joint Staff in Washington, D.C.
The change of command will begin at 2 p.m. at Camp Pendleton's 11 Area
Parade Field.
