The Pentagon released the name today of a soldier from Oceanside who died in Afghanistan over the weekend.
Chief Warrant Officer Deric M. Rasmussen, 33, died in Mazar E Sharif on Sunday in a "non-combat incident," according to the Department of Defense. Further information was not immediately available.
Rasmussen was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.
