- On Thursday, Oceanside got a visit from President Joe Biden, who spoke at MiraCosta College alongside Rep. Mike Levin for a get-out-the-vote event. During his speech, the POTUS endorsed Levin and vowed to "free Iran," though reports indicate he declined to expand on further actions his administration would take. - Last week, the U.S. Marine Corps held its annual Marine Aircraft Group 39 Symposium at Camp Pendleton. The event, hosted by the Women’s Leadership & Education Committee, is meant to encourage young marines and sailors through "mentorship, empowerment, and an all-inclusive environment." Symposium attendees had the opportunity to to discuss common issues and topics women in the Armed Forces face while navigating their respective careers. (Press Release Desk)
- Nearly three decades after a grisly Valentine's Day murder in Oceanside, a Netflix documentary is telling the convicted killer's side of the story. "Killer Sally" focuses on Sally McNeil, a former Marine and bodybuilder who admitted to shooting and killing husband Ray McNeil with a 12-gauge shotgun in 1995. McNeil was released from prison in 2020 and claims that the murder was self-defense after years of abuse at the hands of her husband. Director Nanette Burstein said she made the documentary to "reexamine the complicated case and bring awareness to domestic violence." "Killer Sally" is currently streaming on Netflix. (CBS News 8)
