'My Furry Valentine' Promotion Offers Low Price Pet Adoptions

Two Oceanside shelters will offer $14 adoptions that include spay or neuter, a microchip, vaccinations and a veterinarian exam.

The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA today began the second annual "My Furry Valentine" promotion to raise awareness and find homes for adoptable animals, a spokeswoman for the organization said. Through Valentine's Day all animal adoption fees will be reduced to $14, which includes getting the pet microchipped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and examined by a veterinarian, according to Kelli Herwehe, of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA.

"By utilizing this unique promotion, we hope to bring more awareness to the importance of animal adoption and ultimately help more animals find loving homes," Herwehe said.

Potential adopters must still complete a screening process and meet with an adoption counselor, Herwehe said.

"It's a great time to find an animal to love this Valentine's Day," Herwehe said.
