Suspicious Package Prompts Lockdown, Road Closures At Camp Pendleton

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A suspicious package prompted a lockdown of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Wednesday in northern San Diego County.

The package was found outside Camp Pendleton's main gate near Harbor and San Rafael drives, according to the Oceanside Police Department. All gates to the military base were shut down while police investigated the package.

The California Highway Patrol closed off-ramps from Interstate 5 onto the military base, including Vandegrift Boulevard and Harbor Drive, due to the investigation. The closures prompted a SigAlert for the area.

Police urged drivers to avoid area and use alternatives routes.

As of 8:30 a.m., all gates to Camp Pendleton were reopened and all hard closures were lifted.
