Take Back Your Prescription Drugs

Did you know that, according to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, 2.7 million individuals aged 12 to 17 and 6.9 million individuals aged 18 to 25 have abused prescription drugs at least once?

This weekend, you can help prevent drug abuse of all kinds. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event is both nation- and county-wide, with drop off locations all over San Diego.

Oceanside and Camp Pendleton residents can drop off their prescriptions at . 

Americans that participated in the DEA’s third National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day back in October 2011, turned in more than 377,086 pounds of unwanted or expired medications for safe and proper disposal at the 5,327 take-back sites that were available in all 50 states and U.S. territories, according to the DEA's website. You can be a part of these numbers this weekend.

“The amount of prescription drugs turned in by the American public during the past three Take-Back Day events speaks volumes about the need to develop a convenient way to rid homes of unwanted or expired prescription drugs,” said DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart, according to the DEA's website. “DEA remains hard at work to establish just such a drug disposal process, and will continue to offer take-back opportunities until the proper regulations are in place.”

Have expired medications or unused prescription drugs you'd like out of your household and children's reach? Drop them off on April 28 and prevent things like addiction, seizures and even death.
