Thousands of People Get to Huffing Before Stuffing at the O'side Turkey Trot
The Oceanside Thanksgiving morning event featured a 5 mile run, a 5k and special children's walk/run.
Close to 10,000 runner and walkers filled the street of downtown Oceanside Thursday morning for the eighth annual Pacific Marine Credit Union O’side Turkey Trot.
Runners had the option of doing a 5 mile or 5k (3.1 miles) and were encouraged to wear costumes. Plenty of people dressed as turkeys or in other festive outfits.
The average American consumes more than 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat during a traditional holiday dinner, according to the Calorie Control Council.
According to my Polar Heartrate monitor I burned 834 calories doing the 5 miles, that's the equivalent of turkey (388 calories), stuffing (123 calories) and one slice of pumpkin pie (323 calories). Pretty crazy when you think of it in those terms, you'd have to run many more miles to burn off a full dinner.
