Three Men Arrested After Home Invasion, Stabbing

The men were arrested after a car pursuit that ended in a crash.

Four men were in custody today in connection with the assault of a man and his grandmother at a home in Oceanside and a subsequent police pursuit that ended with a crash, a lieutenant said.

The incident began at a residence in the 2200 block of Bliss Circle about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata. A woman opened the door on the residence and was met by two men who asked for the woman's grandson by name, he said.

When the men saw the woman's grandson behind her, they forced their way into the residence, knocking her to the ground and causing her minor injuries, Mata said.

The men then attacked her grandson, 28-year-old Jackie Do, who is skilled in martial arts and fought back, according to Mata, who said Do suffered numerous stab wounds from a screw driver during the attack.

Neither Do nor his grandmother were taken to a hospital.

Do told investigators he did not know his attackers, Mata said, adding the assailants fled in pickup occupied by two more men.

A short time later, a patrol officer spotted the pickup nearby and initiated a traffic stop at Melrose Drive and Copper Way. The driver, Hung Tu, 40, exited the pickup and one of the three passengers got behind the steering wheel and drove off, Mata said.

Tu was immediately taken into custody while police pursued the pickup. According to Mata, the driver of the pickup lost control and crashed into an electrical box on Grapevine Street in neighboring Vista.

All three men in the pickup bailed on foot but were quickly captured, he said. Police identified them as Than Ho, 38; Andrew Le, 23; and Phong Bui, 37.   Hu, the first man taken into custody, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

Ho was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, conspiracy to commit burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

Le, who was on parole, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

Bui was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

"In this case, the burglary occurred when the suspects entered the house to commit the felony assault," Mata said. "This did not involve theft. ...The motive for the assault has not been established."
