Woman Hit by Train in Downtown Oceanside

The unnamed pedestrian is in serious condition after ignoring warning bells and lights.

A 44-year-old woman was seriously injured today when she walked into the path of a commuter train at a North County grade crossing.

The pedestrian failed to heed lowered crossing arms, warning lights and bells, and the blowing horn of the southbound Amtrak locomotive when she stepped onto the tracks near the intersection of Mission Avenue and North Coast Highway in Oceanside shortly after 1 p.m., sheriff's Sgt. Robin Lawrence said.

Medics airlifted the victim to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the sergeant said.
