  1. Nurses from Oceanside's Tri-City Medical Center will be holding a press conference at the hospital today, Nov. 17, to protest staffing shortages and patient care concerns. Registered nurse Cathy Cronce who works in the post-anesthesia care unit said, "Nurses have been demanding that hospital administrators address the chronic and widespread problem of short staffing that causes delays in care and potentially puts patients at risk, but management refuses to listen." The press conference is scheduled for noon; nurses plan to go to the Tri-City Medical Center board meeting afterward to raise their concerns directly to those in charge. (National Nurses United)
  2. U.S. News & World Report has ranked a total of 11 San Diego County long- and short-term care facilities as "high performing" on their 2022-2023 Best Nursing Homes list. Of the county's 37 total facilities, here are those that made the "high performing" category on the list: Carlsbad By the Sea, Encinitas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Escondido Post Acute Rehab, Grossmont Post Acute Care, La Jolla Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, La Mesa Healthcare Center, La Paloma Healthcare Center, Paradise Valley Health Care Center - National City, Villa Coronado Skilled Nursing Facility, and Villa Las Palmas Healthcare Center. 3. San Diego County Government recently announced it has been awarded a $250,000 grant for a car seat safety program. The grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety will be used toward education classes and outreach events about properly installing and using safety seats for children in underserved communities. Funds will also be used to help distribute child safety seats. (Press Release Desk)
