Update: Surfer Died of Heart Attack

A 63-year-old surfer who died Saturday near Camp Pendleton was killed by a heart attack.

A heart attack killed an Aliso Viejo man while he was surfing at Camp Pendleton Saturday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Charles Solon Todd Jr., 63, of Aliso Viejo had been surfing at Surf Beach, south of Trestles. Witnesses observed Todd ride a wave into shore, sit on his board, and then collapse forward onto his board. He was pulled from the water immediately by bystanders, who called for lifeguards.

Despite attempts to revive the man, Todd was pronounced dead at the scene, the Medical Examiner's Office said.
