Video: Faulty Brakes Cause Marine Cargo Truck to Roll into Basin
No injuries were reported despite troops and boats being nearby.

A parked Marine Corps cargo truck rolled into the Del Mar basin on Camp Pendleton during a training June 25, but despite a class being held next to the vehicle, nobody was injured.
One Marine attempted to stop the vehicle, but jumped off before it hit the water. Nearby boats kept out of its path and avoided being hit.
A Marine was able to immediately drive the vehicle out of the water.

The brakes on the Marine Corps Logistics Vehicle System Replacement truck failed and the truck rolled over chock blocks, according to 2nd Lt. Savannah Moyer, spokesperson for the 1st Marine Division’s 1st Marine Logistics Group.
Brake failures are “very rare” events, she said, adding that the unit took the truck out of service and was processed through maintenance.

Moyer credited the lack of injuries to Marines and New Zealand troops who adhered to safety procedures on land and in the boats near the truck.
The truck’s manufacturer, OshKosh, did not comment on the event.
