Here are the top stories in Orange County today:

  1. Nearly $1 million was spent to remodel Super Mex in Huntington Beach to make way for Qué Vida Tacos. The Mexican restaurant specializes in regional Mexican dishes and tacos prepared from scratch with tortillas handmade from yellow corn sourced from Oaxaca. Meats are cooked on a wood fire grill and chips and salsas are made in house daily. Owner Bryan Bradford said they wanted to focus on the "authentic flavor profiles" of each region and traditional cooking methods to make each kind of taco authentic. The restaurant opened Dec. 7 with full-size tacos averaging $4 and a house margarita at $7.50. You can read the full story here: (OC Register)
  2. A woman was arrested on suspicion of running a drug house in Seal Beach. Police said they found a large number of narcotics after searching a Crestview Avenue house at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, after neighbors had reported suspicious activity at the house. Lt. Nick Nicholas said detectives conducted "several hours of surveillance" and observed suspicious activity taking place at the home. Amber Conley, 37, of Seal Beach was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotics for sale and Nicholas Nicks, 27, of Garden Grove was arrested on an outstanding warrant, but was later released. Detectives are looking for two men who they believe fled before officers arrived. You can read more about this story here: (OC Register)
  3. What can you do to protect your cell phone from hackers in Orange County? When his cell phone stopped working, Orange County resident Richard Roll discovered cyber criminals had accessed his cell phone. To protect others from an increase in cybercrime, Orange County authorities launched the SafeOC initiative. Roll said cyber thieves got into his account last summer and changed his carrier, accessed his emails, and stole cryptocurrency investments. Safe OC officials say the cyber protection initiative has a new website and social media accounts to help the public identify threats and protect themselves and their families. Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15 percent discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
