IRVINE, CA — Two motorcyclists were killed in a crash involving approximately 50 bikers Sunday morning on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Irvine, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on the northbound freeway at Culver Drive, where there was a report of a rider down in the middle lane, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The CHP said there were approximately 50 motorcyclists at the scene of the crash.

Paramedics pronounced a second person dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m.

A Sigalert closing the northbound lanes for an unknown duration at 12:21 a.m. was canceled at 4 a.m.
