- Orange County activists protested Tuesday over a possible Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. A series of “rapid response” rallies were organized by abortion-rights groups at federal courthouses across the nation, including the Ronald Reagan Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Santa Ana. Orange County politicians, abortion-rights activists and community members joined forces over the leaked Supreme Court draft of an opinion that may overturning the 1973 decision that legalized abortion. A larger rally is planned at Santa Ana’s Centennial Regional Park at 10 a.m. on May 14. (Los Angeles Times)
- Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Orange received a record-breaking anonymous donation of $53 million. The anonymous donation from an Orange County couple would support the hospital's greatest needs "for years to come." Amy Daugherty, the chief philanthropy officer of Providence St. Joseph Hospital, said in a statement that the hospital is blessed to have "such charitable benefactors living in our community,"(KABC-TV)
- Hollywood's favorite plant-based ice cream is coming to Orange County. Costa Mesa will soon welcome Dear Bella Creamery. Owners Alice Cherng and Belinda Wei, who have been crafting unique flavors with restaurants from their LA shop since 2017, have big plans for Orange County. The second location will open in June at 2930 Bristol St. in Costa Mesa. (Eater LA)
- OC cities are figuring out how to spend millions of tax dollars in Federal Neighborhood Grants to improve their local cities and neighborhoods. Cities are competing for millions in funding, called Community Development Block Grants, on city council agendas. The greatly needed funds can be used to “improve low to moderate-income neighborhoods, eliminate blight, and create a more stable economic base,” said a report by Santa Ana city staff.
