Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. A shout out to Orange County 8th grader Ryan Honary who developed an AI-driven system for the early detection of wildfires. Wildfires spread in an instant, and every second counts when a fire breaks out. The Irvine Ranch Conservancy is looking at technology invented by the eighth-grader at Pegasus School in Huntington Beach. The new Tech could be "a game-changer for fire prevention," Conservancy officials said. (KABC-TV)
  2. The 62nd annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival which started on Friday continues through Memorial Day. Check out this free, family friendly event that has something for everyone: Live music, entertainment, carnival rides, games, contests, and of course — a lot of strawberries! The theme of the festival is Celebrating Essential Workers. The nonprofit Strawberry Festival is not only good for our community, it raises money for local charities. 3. Discover the cosmos at the Discovery Cube Orange County Space Exhibit this weekend. The space exhibit will be on display at the Santa Ana museum providing a life-sized experience of the planets in our solar system. The exhibit is designed so kids and adults can walk around and experience planets in our solar system on the museum's second-floor Showcase Gallery, "which is 10,000 square feet and has a 24-foot high ceiling." "The planets are internally lit" and glow, said Discovery Cube CEO, Joe Adams. You can read more about this story here: (Orange County Patch)
