Here are the top stories in Orange County today:
- The new $94 million Orange County Museum of Art hosted a 24-hour party that started Saturday. The new Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa launched the museum's new home with a party and activities that started Saturday evening. The round-the-clock celebration, free and open to the public, "started with a drumline procession and included performances by singers and string musicians, a dance party, late-night movies, a Japanese tea ceremony and art-making activities." (Orange County Register via Facebook)
- Orange County observed Indigenous People’s Day Monday. In Santa Ana, the federal holiday was a chance "to reflect on the first contact between Europeans and the Americas." The trend started in 1992 with the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s first voyage to America, and now holidays celebrate the more than 500 recognized indigenous tribes in the U.S, and another 800 across Latin America. - The 4th Annual Coast Film & Music Festival will return to Laguna Beach on November 9 in person and online, "with an added musical twist." This year, the Laguna Beach film festival is adding live music performances to the five-day event. "The weeklong festival will screen about 50 films, including the cult surf classic 'Five Summer Stories' by Laguna Beach's own Greg MacGillivray."
