1. A Santa Ana "Detective of the Year" has been charged in a child sex sting operation. He was charged with sending graphic messages to a civilian "pretending to be a 14-year-old girl," according to the Orange County District Attorney's office. Gregory Daniel Beaumarchais, 43, is accused of communicating with a person he thought was an underage girl, part of the time while he was on duty. He could face a maximum sentence of one year in the Orange County Jail if convicted. Beaumarchais must also register as a sex offender if convicted. Beaumarchais has been a member of the Santa Ana Police Department for 11 years. (Orange County Patch)
2. Vince Scully, the iconic "voice of summer" for the Dodgers, has died at the age of 94. Scully, who "elevated play-by-play to an art form," made millions of listeners believe he was talking to them individually. His descriptions could make "even the most routine plays riveting" to listeners. Dodgers team President and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement, “We have lost an icon.” (Orange County Patch)
3. Surf City USA is living up to its name! With enormous waves, "conditions have been perfect" for the week-long Vans U.S. Open of Surfing competition, organizers said. The Huntington competition has been exciting for athletes and the people who come to watch. David Kohn, who has been attending the event for more than 40 years said, "When the waves are big everything is fun!" On Tuesday, the surfers performed aerial maneuvers in the water. (ABC7 News)
