Here are the top stories in Orange County today:
- Orange County communities are cracking down on catalytic converter thefts, which cost residents " thousands of dollars." Like its Orange County neighbors, Fullerton and Placentia council members took action this week and approved ordinances that "criminalize the possession of unattached catalytic converters without adequate proof of ownership." California has seen a sharp increase in the theft of catalytic converters, a critical component of a vehicle that converts toxic emissions into less harmful gases. (Los Angeles Times)
- Orange County Congresswomen are joining forces to honor a prominent O.C. doctor who was the victim of a California church shooting. Reps. Katie Porter (D-Irvine), and Michelle Steel (R-Huntington Beach) have teamed up to sponsor legislation that will honor Dr. John Cheng, who saved lives when he stopped a shooting suspect in a Laguna Woods church. "I'm proud to support this effort to award him with a Congressional Gold Medal so that his courage will never be forgotten," Porter said. (KABC-TV)
- Home prices in Orange County may drop by 14 percent, according to an economic report released by Chapman University on Thursday. In its semiannual economic outlook, Chapman University calls for a "14 percent drop in the local median selling price to June 2023." It's one of the first projections of a significant decline in home values since home prices soared during the pandemic, and mortgage prices have started to rise. You can read more about his story here: (OC Register)
- Join in to help clean up Lake Forest on Saturday, June 25! There will be a "Clean Lake Forest Citywide Clean-Up Event" in Lake Forest from 8 a.m. to noon. You can find more information about his event here: (LakeForestCa.gov)
