  1. A Newport Beach energy drink raised $29 million in a Series B round of funding. Newport Beach-based A Shoc Energy, which says it makes “a modern performance energy drink,” raised the funds from famous athlete investors including golfer Bryson DeChambeau, New York Yankee Aaron Judge, Los Angeles Dodger Freddie Freeman and skateboarder Paul Rodriguez. A Shoc Energy, founded in 2019, is distributed nationally by Keurig Dr. Pepper. You can read more about this story here: (Orange County Business Journal)
  2. Can high school students help save the planet by saving honeybees? About 15 Westminster High School students are helping establish the first high school beekeeping program. The students are hoping to create a sanctuary where six queen bees and 60,000 worker bees can live, work and eventually produce honey, beeswax and other hive by-products.   3. How should California metro areas deal with rundown, seedy motels? Residents are demanding solutions for rundown motels that promote illegal activities and are a source of constant complaints. Anaheim City Council members are cracking down on illegal activity at West Anaheim motels lining Beach Boulevard where there is drug dealing, illegal gambling halls known as slap houses, and prostitution that lead to "assaults, shootings, drug overdoses, deaths, human trafficking and property crimes along the boulevard,” said Planning and Building Director Ted White. In the neighboring city of Stanton, officials have a different approach. They are buying out some Beach Boulevard motels with state grant money to turn them into homeless housing.
