  1. A magnitude 4.0 earthquake rattled Santa Paula in Ventura County on Saturday. It was felt in Los Angeles County and parts of Orange County. The earthquake happened at 5:44 p.m. and was centered about "nine kilometers northwest of Santa Paula," according to the U.S. Geological Survey. People as far north as Santa Barbara and Bakersfield and as far south as Laguna Niguel reported feeling the ground shake. According to the USGS said, other areas where people reported feeling the earthquake included Santa Clarita, Glendale, Santa Monica and Long Beach. You can read the full story here: (OC Register)
  2. Why do people come to Orange County? A new exhibit at the Sherman Library and Gardens in Corona del Mar answers that question. The library exhibit called, "What brought people to Orange County?" was dreamed up by director Jill Thrasher. She came up with the idea when she was cataloging ephemera — printed items meant for short-term use — when the pandemic started and realized there were many colorful advertising brochures about OC that are part of the region's appeal and history. Thrasher thought they were so pretty that "they should be in an exhibit." That led to the current show, “The Persuasive Past of Orange County,” opened in late January after curators spent about a year organizing it. You can read the full story here: (Los Angeles Times)
  3. Do you know what low-water fruit tree is good to grow in limited spaces? If you have a small garden space and would love to grow a beautifully flowering fruit tree, you may want to grow a fig tree. Garden experts say when a fig grows and is on its way to becoming a tree you can prune it, or let it grow to become a mature tree in the garden. Look for a variety that is "clonally propagated" to be sure your tree can produce fruit. Once mature, a fig tree will only need a good soaking every few weeks, although potted trees will need more frequent watering. You can read the full story here: (OC Register)
