- Coors Light said they will discontinue using plastic 6-pack rings worldwide this year. The company said in an announcement that they are eliminating plastic rings from their packaging, "starting this year" and finishing "by 2025." Molson Coors will invest $85 million to make the change to environmentally friendly cardboard packaging and discontinue distributing the single use plastic 6-pack rings that are often lethal to sea life and wildlife. “We believe that buying beer shouldn’t mean buying plastic,” Marcelo Pascoa, vice president of marketing for the Coors family of brands, said in a statement. - The first people of O.C. are fighting to save the land of their 'mother village.' In a decades-long battle, The Juaneño Band of Mission Indians has been battling political delays to protect a sliver of land in San Juan Capistrano. The 1.5-acre park would be a place where the tribe with ancient ties to land could hold ceremonies and educate the public about their history and culture. But the fight isn’t over as Putuidem Village park is "only a small portion" of the 65-acre Northwest Open Space, where their home village once stood. Native American tribal leaders and conservation groups sent a letter to San Juan Capistrano city officials this week, "urging them to preserve the land." (Los Angeles Times)
- A thick column of smoke could be seen in the clear blue sky from Mission Viejo Wednesday from a fire first reported at about 11:30 a.m. The Jim fire started near the Holy Jim Trail in the Cleveland National Forest, Cleveland National Forest spokesman Nathan Judy said. By the early afternoon, it had already consumed hundreds of acres. The blaze is not threatening cabins or other structures along the trail, but the flames are "moving at a moderate pace,” Judy noted.
