  2. Lawsuits are piling up over the destructive Huntington Beach oil spill in October. The legal fight escalated Monday when the operator of the broken pipeline sued two cargo ship companies for the two cargo vessels that allegedly dragged the oil pipeline with their anchors during a winter storm that ruptured the pipe, spilling thousands of gallons of oil off the coast of Huntington Beach. Houston-based Amplify Energy Corp. accused the two shipping companies and their subsidiaries, in Switzerland, Panama, Liberia and Greece of "allowing their ships to drop anchor" near the pipeline and "failing to notify authorities" after the damage occurred. The company is also suing the nonprofit Marine Exchange of Southern California that monitors and directs ship traffic in bustling San Pedro Bay. You can read the full story here: (Los Angeles Times)
