Here are the top 3 stories in Orange County today:
- A plan to replace a 1960s-era lifeguard chair with a beach umbrella at Moss Beach is being challenged by some residents, who want to keep the portable lifeguard chair. Proponents say the proposed new lifeguard tower is necessary for safety. The city Planning Commission approved the construction of the enclosed lifeguard tower on Laguna's smaller beach, surrounded by rocky cliffs. (Orange County Register via Facebook)
- A Consumer Watchdog group alleges that insurers have inserted provisions into the fine print of their home, condo and renter's policies "to limit or deny coverage after a wildfire." Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has scheduled a public hearing on the FAIR Plan on Wednesday, July 13, at 9 a.m. in Oakland. Lara said the department needs to use “every legal and regulatory tool available,” to hold insurance companies accountable. (O.C. Register)
- Sample a variety of wines and pair them with organic, gourmet chocolate at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts this summer. The “Art, Jazz, Wine and Chocolate” series will be held on Thursday nights and will be accompanied by jazz music and fine art. Reservations are required. (Orange County Patch)
