Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. In Orange County, lifeguards are fully staffed and are ready to handle the summer beach crowds, despite a nationwide lifeguard shortage. Newport Beach Fire Department Assistant Chief of Lifeguard Operations Brian O'Rourke said they already hired about 140 ocean lifeguards for about 38 stations up and down the coast. They didn't have a "huge turnout," he said, but right now, they have all the lifeguards they need for O.C. beaches. (KABC-TV)
  2. Music is in the air at the free Summer Concert Series that starts this week in Garden Grove. The first free concert will be on Thursday, June 23 and the free music series continues on Thursdays through July. Artists Huong Thuy, Hoang My An, Justin Nguyen and Carol Kim will perform at Garden Grove Park this Thursday. All concerts are on Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Check out the full schedule here: (Orange County Tribune)
  3. A shout out to the Orange County Fire Authority. OCFA firefighters and Orange County Sheriff’s Department rescued a family of four with their dog, Bella Tuesday night on a trail off of Ortega Highway. After hiking all day, they found themselves lost, and fortunately were able to call for help. In a Facebook post about the rescue, the O.C. Sheriff's Department said there are many trails throughout Orange County to hike, but before you head out, make sure you have the trail mapped out, bring a fully charged cell phone, plenty of snacks and plenty of water. Also, be sure to let someone know where you will be, and when you plan to return. (Orange County Fire Authority via Facebook)
