- California accused Exxon Mobil of "deceiving" the public by promoting the "myth" of plastics recycling. On Thursday, California attorney general Rob Bonta announced a first-of-its-kind investigation into the fossil fuel and petrochemical industries for their alleged role in causing a global crisis in plastic waste pollution. He sent a subpoena to Exxon Mobile Corp for their “historic and ongoing efforts” to minimize what the public knows about the harmful consequences of plastics, that eventually become microplastics, threatening our oceans and ending up in our fish and seafood. This is an urgent issue, Bonata said, adding that more than 90% of plastics end up "buried in landfills, burned or flushed into the ocean." Some researchers say in 30 years, "there may be more plastic by weight in the world’s oceans than there are fish." You can read the full story here: (LA Times)
