- Spring is here and so are coyotes. Coyotes are caring for newborn pups and may be seen more in urban areas during the day looking of food, water and shelter, which means outside pets, and sometimes people, at risk of attack and injury. Preventative measures can limit interactions between coyotes and people, pets and livestock. Secure trash cans and remove outside pet food that attracts coyotes. They can come into yards, even if it's fenced-in and you haven't seen coyotes before. Sgt. J.R. Stewart with Mission Viejo Animal Control agency said they will remove any injured or sick coyotes, and if they bite a person, they will be evaluated for rabies. Coyotes live here and are part of the ecosystem, Stewart said. If you see one, make noise to scare it away, he said. (OC Register)
