Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. A shout out to The Voice of O.C. for winning the prestigious General Excellence in Public Services Awards from the California News Publishers Association. The Voice of O.C. received “multiple awards” for its coverage of the oil spill off the coast of Huntington Beach and the COVID-19 pandemic. The First Place in Public Service award Voice of OC was for “Investigating Big Oil’s Run in with Orange County” with articles including: “How Were More Than a Million People Allowed Along Huntington Beach Coast as a Massive Oil Slick Approached?” You can read more about this story here: (Voice of OC)
  2. “Where's The Fire? Stop Sending Fire Trucks to Medical Calls.” That was the name of a report released last month by an Orange County grand jury. Th grand jury questioned the O.C. Fire Department policy of sending fire trucks for 911 medical emergency calls “when there is no fire.” The report noted that the majority of 911 calls were for medical emergencies. Placentia city officials realized this “years ago” and formed their own fire department with a different response model. (Voice of OC)
  3. The Great American Tiny House Show is coming to Los Angeles June 18 and 19. Head to Pomona to see what’s new in tiny houses.
